Mills College Ranked in the Top 10 of Master’s Universities by Washington Monthly
Oakland, CA–August 26, 2013 The Washington Monthly’s annual College Guide issue has ranked Mills College among the top master’s universities in the nation. Mills ranked 9 out of the 100 top-ranked master’s universities, maintaining its position in the top 10 of master’s universities.
The publication rates schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: improving social mobility, producing research, and promoting public service. Along with other top master’s institutions, Mills was recognized for its noteworthy contributions to the public interest, including community service, undergraduates’ success at continuing on to receive PhDs, and helping low-income students earn degrees.
According to the Washington Monthly, “Everyone has a stake in the conduct of our colleges and universities. We’re all affected by the productivity of our knowledge workers and the integrity of our college-educated leaders.”
Editors of the publication say higher education matters to more than just the people who attend. That, they say, is why the Washington Monthly guide asks not what colleges can do for you, but what colleges are doing for the country.
