Mills Professor Ajuan Mance Reflects on the Legacy and Life of Maya Angelou

Oakland, CA–May 29, 2014 In an interview on KCBS Radio, Mills College Professor of English Ajuan Mance reflected on the passing of legendary author Maya Angelou at age 86.

Noting an important theme of Angelou’s work, that “all people are the heroes of their own stories,” Mance says the author inspired much of her own research and teaching.

Mance specializes in African American literature, 19th-century American literature, US popular culture, the oral tradition in US literature, black feminist thought, and African American art.
