The Daily Meal Names Mills One of the Top 75 Colleges for Campus Dining in America
Oakland, CA–August 14, 2014 According to The Daily Meal, a website dedicated to “all things food and drink,” Mills ranks 14 among the top 75 colleges in the country in providing fresh, nutritious meals to students.
The Daily Meal selected 2014’s best colleges for food in America by looking at specific efforts each college was making toward improving taste, nutrition, and community dining services.
Contributing factors for the overall ratings included providing well-balanced nutritional food that is sustainable to the environment, accessibility and service such as dietary accommodations, and providing nutrition education and food-centered events. Also taken into consideration was access to vast food options in the surrounding area as well as the X-factor—the little extras that set colleges ahead of the pack.
“[Mills] dining services use local ingredients as much as possible and cook in small batches to reduce waste and maintain freshness,” says The Daily Meal. “And Mills certainly knows how to throw a party, with themed events like the Latina Heritage Dinner, several all-campus picnics each year, chef wars, and a meal centered around the produce harvested from the campus farm.”
