  • Completing an internship while in college has become standard for the majority of graduating students. Let us help you remain competitive in the global market.
  • Students who take the time to gain experience through an internship earn more money upon graduation than those who do not. (NACE Report)
  • Many employers hire their interns directly upon graduation.
  • Internships are natural ways to gain experience and make the vital connections you will need to succeed in your post graduation career.
  • Kate Dey, the Director of Career Services, was an intern at Mills College during her graduate training and was hired directly upon completing her MA program.

The Value of Completing an Internship

Completing an internship will enhance the skills and knowledge you are acquiring in the classroom. In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and insight into a particular field, occupation or organization. At the very least, an internship will help you answer a commonly asked question, "what are my options?"

One of the most important aspects of participating in an an internship during your college years has to do with the mystery and magic of networking. The career enhancing connections you can make while working in a professional setting will provide you with necessary links into the world of work once you graduate from your program. It is important to note that the majority of jobs held today came about through the process of networking. Career Services highly suggests that you complete at least one internship during your years at Mills.

Academic Credit

You do not have to be a Junior or Senior to do an internship. We encourage and recommend all students - freshwomen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students - to participate in internship experiences throughout their study at Mills.  As a junior and senior you are eligible to receive academic credit for your internship if you choose to do so.
