English Language Learner Teaching Fellow

My name is Colton Saylor, and I am the new English Language Learner (ELL) Teaching Fellow at the Center for Academic Excellence. My position’s main focus is to provide academic support for any English Language Learner students at Mills via scheduled one-on-one tutorials. During these tutorials, I can help you with any of your writing and grammar questions. I understand that mastering English can be a frustrating experience, particularly in an academic setting that already uses a type of English unfamiliar to most native speakers. My first priority is to help you locate and correct your patterns of error, whether it be verb tenses or the use of semi-colons. My overall objective is to provide you with a foundation of knowledge on the English language so that you have the tools to succeed in any of your writing ventures in the future.

Besides having over five years experience in education, I am a proud Mills alum; I earned my Master’s in Literature from the Mills English Department, where I received extensive training on teaching writing and English as a Second Language. I have also worked in the writing centers for Mills College and the University of California, Santa Barbara (where I received my Bachelor’s in English). Currently, I teach at the Converse International School of Language in San Francisco, where I specialize in applying English grammar lessons to business and other professional situations.
