Basic Medical Services
Basic Medical Services are comprehensive medical services provided to ALL mills students through the University Health Service (UHS), known as the Tang Center, located at 2222 Bancroft Way in Berkeley. The Mills "Basic Medical Services" fees cover most student visits to a Tang physician, social worker, nurse practitioner or health educator. Tang Center charges some fees to users, e.g., for labs and x-rays. The Tang Center’s primary care, along with a major medical health insurance plan, provides a complete comprehensive health care package for Mills students.
Mills has a Health Director on campus who addresses all student health issues. She is available to assist students with questions about insurance and about how to use the medical facility at the Tang Center in Berkeley. Contact her at 510.430.2119.
Primary Care Physician
Students who choose to stay with their own health care plan can still use their primary care physician. However, under "Basic Medical Services," to which all students are entitled, a personal physician or nurse practitioner can be selected from the Tang center staff. Under Student Health Insurance (SHIP) the primary health care provider must be selected from the Tang Center. In most cases, a referral form is required from a Tang clinician to request authorization for care from outside specialists under the SHIP plan.
Establishing Medical Care
New students at Mills are encouraged to make an appointment with the Mills College Health Director to get assistance with establishing medical care at the Tang Center. Bring a copy of medical records to school. Having these records is very helpful for the Tang medical staff to understand the medical history of the student. Important information for new students
