Getting Connected - Dial-up Access Windows Vista

Requirements for a Modem Connection

  • You must have a Mills College username and password. Each time you dial in, you may need to enter your Mills username and password.
  • All computers connecting to the Mills Network must have virus protection software installed. If you do not have virus protection software you may download and install free McAfee virus protection software. See the Virus Information link in the right navigation area.

Set up your connection for the first time:

  1. Click the 'Start' button.
  2. Click 'Connect To.'
  3. Click 'Set up a connection or network.'
  4. Click 'Set up a dial-up connection.'
  5. Click 'Next.'
  6. In the 'Dial-up phone number:' field, enter:
    • 777-0073 if you live in the 510 area code off-campus
    • 510-777-0073 if you live outside of the 510 area code
    • 8, 777-0073 if you live on campus
  7. In the 'User name:' field, enter your Mills username.
  8. In the 'Password:' field, enter your Mills password.
  9. In the 'Connection name:' field, enter 'Mills Dial-up'
  10. Click 'Connect.'
  11. When 'You are connected to the Internet' appears, click 'Browse the Internet now.'
  12. Click 'Home.'
  13. Click 'Continue.'
  14. Click 'Close.'
  15. When finished, disconnect by clicking the network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and selecting 'Disconnect from' and then 'Mills Dial-up.'

To connect to the Mills Network again:

  1. Click the 'Start' button.
  2. Click 'Connect To.'
  3. Click 'Mills Dial-up.'
  4. Click 'Connect.'
  5. Enter your password in the 'Password:' field.
  6. Click 'Dial.'
  7. When 'Successfully connected to Mills Dial-up' appears, click 'Close.'

 Disconnect from the Mills Network:

  1. Click the network icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
  2. Select 'Disconnect from' and then 'Mills Dial-up.'

IF YOU FORGET YOUR PASSWORD

There is no way to retrieve your old password. The only way to gain access to the network is to reset your password. Follow the password reset instructions detailed on the Password Setting or Resetting page.
