Requirements for a Modem Connection
- You must have a Mills College login name and password. Each time you dial in, you may need to enter your Mills login name and password.
- All computers connecting to the Mills Network must have virus protection software installed. If you do not have virus protection software you may download and install free McAfee virus protection software. See the Virus Information link in the right navigation area.
Configuring Dial-up Connection
- Click "Start" and click "Control Panel".
- Click "Network and Internet Connections".
- Click "Network Connections".
- Under "Network Tasks", click "Create a new Connection". This opens the "New Connection Wizard".
- Click "Next".
- Select "Connect to the Internet" and click "Next".
- Select "Set up my connection manually..." and click "Next".
- Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and click "Next".
- Enter "Mills" as the ISP name and click "Next".
- Enter the phone number
- 777-0073 if you live in the 510 area code off-campus
- 510-777-0073 if you live outside of the 510 area code
- 8, 777-0073 if you live on campus
- Click next.
- Select "Anyone’s use" and click "Next".
- In the "Internet Account Information" fields, fill out this information if you desire.
- Click "Next".
- Click "Finish".
- A connection icon for your remote connection will be created in your "Network Connections" folder, which you can access by right-clicking on "My Network Places" on the desktop and selecting "Properties". Drag the Mills icon to your desktop to create a shortcut.
Connecting to Mills and the Internet
- Double-click your remote connection icon. If necessary, enter your user name and password and click "Dial".
Note: When connected, the Connection Complete dialog box will appear. If you would not like the Connection Complete box to appear in future connections, check "Do not display this message again" and click "OK".
Disconnecting from Mills Dial-up
- When you are ready to disconnect, quit all open network applications and then terminate your modem connection by right-clicking the connection icon on the bottom Windows tool bar and selecting "Disconnect".
