Technology

Mills values innovation in education, and our progressive outlook is reflected in our commitment to providing students with full and easy access to technology of all kinds . . . for learning and for living.

Computers are everywhere.
Campus-wide computer resources make it convenient for students to stay connected. Many residence halls are equipped with 24/7 computer labs (Mac and PC) and networked printers. There are also computers available for use in classrooms during non-class hours, as well as labs dedicated to academic departments for use by students in those majors. There is even a computer lab designated expressly for commuting students.

Campus-wide wireless network to connect on the go.
At Mills, you can go online wherever, whenever, via wireless technology. Mills offers access points in historic residential living areas and labs, as well as in the library, academic classrooms, and many student gathering places such as the Tea Shop, Founders Commons, and Holmgren Meadow.

F. W. Olin Library—a window to the world.
Student research today extends well beyond books on shelves, so we have made a strong commitment to Internet resources. Whether you choose to go to the library in person, or access our comprehensive resources from off site via the Internet (24/7/365), you’ll find that our web-based catalog MINERVA gives you access to the tools you need. The library subscribes to more than 60 databases that give you a virtual collection with research capabilities comparable to those at a major research institution.

Multimedia equipment is just as readily available.
Audio and video-playing equipment for student listening and viewing is located on the first floor in the rear of the Library. Stations are equipped with cassette tape deck, VHS video deck and monitor, turntable, compact disc player, DVD player, and a Blu-ray player. There are no facilities for duplicating. Check out a headset and materials at the Circulation Desk.

Make connections in and out of the classroom.
Technology is an important part of the classroom experience at Mills. Many courses have dedicated webpages that give students access to specific research, reading, or discussion boards. Students can even listen to assigned audio clips and view images from home or the residence halls. Professors also have webcasting equipment available for webinars and special events.

Plug into multimedia.
Mills' Audio-Visual Technical Services Center (AVTSC) is another multimedia resource for students. Like the library, the AVTSC offers all kinds of listening and viewing equipment, but here students can check out some equipment like digital cameras or video recorders for use off site for class projects.

Get free email—and more.
Mills offers all students private email accounts (for life) and free virus protection software for your personal computer. There is also space for personal webpages.

Take care of business online.
Check your grades, financial aid status, or update your student record. Technology at Mills helps you take care of business in an instant.
