Students, faculty, and staff with a Mills account can save personal files on the 'myfiles' file server and work files on the 'millswork' file server.
Note: this procedure is not required if you are using college-owned computers on campus. Simply log in to the computer and click on 'My Computer' in the Start Menu. Under 'Network Drives' you will see your 'myfiles' storage space mapped to the 'H:' drive and your 'millswork' storage space mapped to the 'M:' drive.
Connecting to the file servers
1. If you are on campus and are using a wireless computer or personal computer in your residence hall room, be sure to log in via Bluesocket first.
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Use your Mills username and password to log in at the Bluesocket interface.
- Once you are logged in, keep the Bluesocket browser window active, as you will need to log out using that window.
- When finished with network access, log out via the Bluesocket window.
2. Right-click on 'Computer' in the Start Menu and select 'Map Network Drive.'
3. At the 'Drive:' pop-up window, select a drive letter. To be consistent with Mills-owned computers, choose H: for 'myfiles' and M: for 'millswork.'
4. In the 'Folder:' field, type as appropriate:
- \\myfiles\username (username is your Mills username) to access 'myfiles'
- \\millswork\departments to access 'millswork'
5. Check 'Reconnect at logon' if you are primarily using your computer on campus and would like the network drive to reconnect every time you use your computer. If you try to click on the network drive when you are off campus, you may need to repeat the previous steps when you return to campus.
6. Click 'Connect using a different user name.'
7. Enter your Mills username and password. If you receive an error message when you enter this information, try changing the 'User name' field to MILLS\username (username is your Mills username).
8. Click 'Finish.'
A window will open showing your file storage space. If you close this window, you can reopen it by clicking on 'Computer' in the Start Menu. Under 'Network Location' you will see your 'myfiles' or 'millswork' storage space.
IF YOU FORGET YOUR PASSWORD
There is no way to retrieve your old password. The only way to gain access to the network is to reset your password. Follow the password reset instructions detailed on the Password Setting or Resetting page.
To report network outages please call the computing help desk at ext. 2005 or email helpdesk@mills.edu. Off campus? Phone (510) 430-2005.
