Wireless Access - Windows Vista

  • All computers connecting to the Mills Network must have virus protection software installed. If you do not have virus protection software you may download and install free McAfee virus protection software here.
  • A wireless network card must be installed before you begin this process.
  • Your wireless network card may also need to be turned on.
  • Record your current settings if you plan to reconnect to a previous network.
  • If these instructions don't work for you, you may have a personal firewall enabled which is blocking your connection to our network.  Please disable your firewall software and try again.

1. Connect to the 'Mills-Wireless' Network

  • Right-click on the wireless icon in the lower right corner of your screen and select 'Connect to a network.'
  • Click on 'Mills-Wireless' under Select a network to connect to.'
  • Click 'Connect.'
  • Click 'Connect Anyway' when prompted with the message 'Mills-Wireless is an unsecured network.'
  • Check the box next to 'Save this network.'
  • Check the box next to 'Start this connection automatically.'
  • Click 'Close.'

2.  Allow Mills to open a pop-up window

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Go to the 'Tools' menu and select 'Pop-up Blocker' and then 'Pop-up Blocker Settings.'
  • In the 'Address of website to allow:' field, enter:

*.mills.edu

(* is the asterisk symbol above the 8 on your keyboard.)
  • Click 'Add.'
  • Click 'Close.'

3.  Log in via Bluesocket for access to the Internet and Mills Network

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • At the Bluesocket interface, enter your Mills username and password and click 'Log In.'
  • Once you are logged in, keep the small Bluesocket browser window active, as you will need it to log out.

4.  IMPORTANT - When finished with network access, log out via the Bluesocket window

  • In the small Bluesocket window, click 'Click to Logout.'

Note: If there is no Bluesocket log out window, please be sure you have added *.mills.edu to your pop-up blocker exception list (see step 2).

IF YOU FORGET YOUR PASSWORD

There is no way to retrieve your old password. The only way to gain access to the network is to reset your password. Follow the password reset instructions detailed on the Password Setting or Resetting page.

To report network outages please call the computing help desk at ext. 2005 or email helpdesk@mills.edu. Off campus? Phone (510) 430-2005.
