Michael CanterinoMichael is a first-year MFA student studying fiction. He graduated from Lafayette College with a major in English. Since then he has worked in New York City as a casting director, and for the past year he’s been a reader for One Story, a literary magazine based in Brooklyn. Michael is a lifelong East Coaster who’s excited about his cross-country move to California.

Colton SailorColton is a graduate student in his final semester of the English Master's program. Before coming to Mills, he studied at UC Santa Barbara, where he majored in English with an emphasis in American Literature in a Global Context. Here at Mills, he has continued to study American Literature through a variety of different theoretical frames, while also gaining greater knowledge of how to teach effective writing techniques and grammar usage. On his downtime, he likes to watch poorly made horror films and eat vegetarian pizza burgers (not because he is a vegetarian, but because he likes to live in the fantasy world where burgers taste like pizza).

After a mess of sleepless nights spent reading books ranging from poetry to Evolutionary Psychology (in the midst of finishing an undergrad Biology degree in South Florida), Jordan left college and found work at an industrial printing complex in Middle Tennessee on the graveyard shift.  Lost in books, writing projects, red wine, and seven months of factory work, he decided to take action on his passion for literature—returning to college with a, hopefully, final set of perennial goals. In the winter of 2007 Jordan moved to the Bay Area to pursue a BA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State University.

Mike Oppenheim

Mike Oppenheim achieved an MFA in English and Creative Writing from Mills College in 2011 and next completed UC Berkeley’s TESL certification program (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages) in 2012. He works full time at a private language school in SF, CA, but is happy to continue his work at Mills again as a tutor for any student who needs help with grammar and other English language skills.
