Inspire New Ways of Thinking.
The master of fine arts (MFA) in studio art at Mills College focuses on concept-driven, multidisciplinary work, preparing you for sustained engagement in your art practice and strengthening your artistic voice.
MFA in Studio Art
Cultivate strong visual skills, clear reasoning, and understanding of the historical, social, and analytical contexts of your art. Gain exposure for your work and build networks.
You’ll receive generous individual attention from professors who are internationally renowned artists and deeply committed educators. Three faculty members will form your personal graduate committee.
An expansive art studio will be yours for your entire Mills experience. You’ll also have access to fully equipped sculpture and photo studios, a multimedia lab, the Mills College Art Museum, and more.
Through our Art + Process + Ideas artist-in-residence program, several Bay Area artists become part of the campus community each year, exchanging ideas with MFA students and presenting new works.
Student Art Exhibitions
Each year, graduating students work together to curate and promote their MFA thesis exhibition in the Mills College Art Museum, which draws local gallery owners, art dealers, and critics.
Find inspiration in a community of artists with diverse life experience and interests. Cross media boundaries and collaborate with artists in other disciplines, including music, dance, and creative writing.
