The Place for Writers is more a community than a specific place. Each year, a group of our creative writing and literature graduate students produce a roving series of programs and events, including the Works in Progress reading series, the Contemporary Writers Series, interdisciplinary workshops and performances, conferences and panels on publishing and teaching, open mics, and more.
The goal is to build relationships outside of the classroom—among our graduate student writers, scholars, and artists—and between Mills and the Bay Area literary community, along with professionals in the fields of writing, publishing, and teaching. The Place is one of innovation—each new group of graduate assistants re-evaluates current programming in relation to the dynamic literary community at Mills, often creating new events and programs to serve current student needs.
The Place for Writers also keeps students updated about various opportunities and deadlines for publications, grants, residencies, and conferences.
