Early Childhood Education
Our Early Childhood Education Programs prepare you to become early childhood teachers, professionals, and cross-disciplinary leaders who support children’s learning, development, and overall well-being.
Our Teachers for Tomorrow’s Schools Program is designed to prepare professional, reflective, collaborative, and visionary teachers who are committed to improving K–12 education in urban schools.
Our Educational Leadership Programs are designed for working practitioners who hold or seek leadership positions in settings such as urban public school systems, higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and early childhood educational programs.

At the heart of our Early Childhood Education Programs is the Mills College Children's School, the oldest laboratory school west of the Mississippi. You'll put theory into practice at this internationally renowned facility.

We have a strong local and national reputation in early childhood education, teacher preparation, and school leadership. Our commitment to social justice permeates our teaching and research as we prepare highly skilled educational leaders in classrooms, school administration, and hospitals.
Mills gave me a theoretical framework for considering leadership toward social justice. My study actually focused on how African American women leaders use their life story to navigate the power dynamics of predominately Caucasian institutions to lead toward social justice. Having a framework for leadership that goes beyond the traditional orthodoxy is particularly helpful in considering many of the issues facing our college (and the state).
