Faculty Scholars & Researchers

Our School of Education faculty are widely renowned for scholarly research that addresses critical and timely educational issues and contributes to the advancement of educational practice.

Who We Are

We are a community of faculty, staff, students, and alumnae who share a commitment to improve the education and life chances of children and youth in Oakland, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and across the globe.

What We Do

We have a strong local and national reputation in early childhood education, teacher preparation, and school leadership. Our commitment to social justice permeates our teaching and research as we prepare highly skilled educational leaders in classrooms, school administration, and hospitals.

Mills gave me a theoretical framework for considering leadership toward social justice. My study actually focused on how African American women leaders use their life story to navigate the power dynamics of predominantly Caucasian institutions to lead toward social justice. Having a framework for leadership that goes beyond the traditional orthodoxy is particularly helpful in considering many of the issues facing our college (and the state).
