The Center for Contemporary Music (CCM) and the Mills Music Department present a series of concerts of new music and allied arts during the academic year. These concerts feature performances and works by guest and resident artists—many of which result directly from collaborative work underway at CCM. With assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer, guest artists have presented outstanding performances and have participated in the daily life of CCM through class visits, seminars, and informal discussions. In addition, graduate students at CCM produce highly inventive and professional concerts.
Since 1991, the Songline Series has been a regular forum for the latest ideas in experimental music and art. These symposia on sound, nature, technology, and performance consist of informal evening concerts and/or discussions, which are open to the public and led by guest artists. Past guests have included David Tudor, Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Lucier, Maryanne Amacher, Hildegard Westerkamp, James Tenney, Luc Ferrari, and Morton Subotnick to name a few. We also have featured many wonderful musicians and improvisors such as Tetsu Saitoh, Gunda Gottschalk, Jane Rigler, Gianni Gebbia, Anne Laberge, and Georg Graewe.
