Visiting Mills

Visit Mills College The best way to get to know Mills is by visiting our campus and engaging with our intelligent and creative community.  From the moment you enter the front gate, you’ll find yourself welcomed by century-old trees that line Richards Road. Between the Mediterranean-style buildings and the Oakland, CA sun, you may find yourself falling in love with the campus, as so many of our students do. Interested students who are unable to visit may take advantage of our online engagement opportunities, detailed below.

Attend a Lecture
The Mills College Studio Art program hosts a lecture series each year, featuring prominent local and national artists. Admission is free and open to the public.

View an Exhibit
Mills College is home to our very own Art Museum, a dedicated ‘laboratory’ for creative expression, and a space that actively engages students, faculty, and the surrounding communities through the works of living artists and the history of art. Exhibiting both student and professional work, the Mills College Art Museum exhibitions are designed to encourage unique and stimulating experiences and conversations. A list of current and upcoming exhibits can be found here. Admission is free.

Take a Campus Tour
Take a virtual tour Walking tours of the campus are offered by the Office of Admissions daily, Monday through Friday, at 10:00 am and 2:00pm. We encourage interested students to combine a campus tour with other visit opportunities, such as admissions consultations and class visits, as detailed below. Schedule an Admission Consultation
An admission consultation is an informal meeting or phone/skype call with a member of the graduate admissions staff to discuss your personal academic and career objectives and determine whether Mills can help you reach these goals. If interested, we can arrange for you to speak with a professor or staff member in the Art department as well. Consultations commonly occur Monday through Friday during business hours, but other times can be arranged. To schedule an on-campus consultation, please use this form. To schedule a phone or skype appointment, please email or call us directly.

Visit a Class
A class visit will allow you to experience the rigor, personalization, and interdisciplinary nature of the Mills Studio Arts program. Class visits can be scheduled during most of the academic year, and a current list of classes can be found here. Class visit requests must be made two weeks in advance through this form.
