The best way to get to know Mills is by visiting our campus and engaging with our intelligent and creative community. From the moment you enter the front gate, you’ll find yourself welcomed by century-old trees that line Richards Road. Between the Mediterranean-style buildings and the Oakland, CA sun, you may find yourself falling in love with the campus, as so many of our students do. Interested students who are unable to visit may take advantage of our online engagement opportunities, detailed below.
Take a Campus Tour
Walking tours of the campus are offered by the Office of Graduate Admissions Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 am. We encourage interested students to combine a campus tour with other visit opportunities, such as admissions consultations and class visits, as detailed below. To sign up for a campus tour, please use this form. For a sneak peek of our beautiful campus, check out our photo gallery.
Schedule an Admission Consultation
An admission consultation is an informal meeting or phone/skype call with a member of the graduate admissions staff to discuss your personal academic and career objectives and determine whether Mills can help you reach these goals. If interested, we can arrange for you to speak with a professor in the Music department as well. Consultations commonly occur Monday through Friday at 11:00 am and 2:45 pm. Other times are available during business hours. To schedule an on-campus consultation, please use this form. To schedule a phone or skype appointment, please email or call us directly.
Visit a Class
A class visit will allow you to experience the rigor, personalization, and interdisciplinary nature of the Mills Music program. Class visits can be scheduled during most of the academic year, and a current list of classes can be found here for Composition, here for Performance and Literature, and here for Electronic Music and Recording Media. Class visit requests must be made two weeks in advance through this form.
Attend a Performance
The Jeannik Méquet Littlefield Concert Hall and other performance spaces host a number of events open to the public, such as our annual Mills Music Now Concert Series, featuring a diverse blend of experimental, world, and traditional Western art music. Songlines, a more intimate event, brings together composers, performing artists, and researchers and encourages dynamic interaction between audience artist.
