Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Delve into the chemistry of life. Join a rapidly expanding field where discoveries about biological systems at the molecular level are fueling advances in medicine, agriculture, and ecology.
About the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Program
As a biochemistry and molecular biology major at Mills, you’ll become part of a thriving community of scientists who embrace the spirit of experimentation and inquiry. In small, interactive classes, you’ll explore chemical reactions occurring within the cell and the regulation of biological processes. Dedicated professors will guide you through assignments that tackle complex topics in chemistry, biology, and physics. They’ll pose questions that engage every student, provide individualized feedback, and adapt teaching methods to student needs. You’ll learn to use the sophisticated equipment in the laboratories of the Betty Irene Moore Natural Sciences Building, where classrooms, meeting spaces, and labs foster close collaboration among students and faculty.
Outside of class, professors will encourage you to conduct original research, mentor you one-on-one, and help you solve challenging problems. Guided by supportive faculty, you’ll secure research internships with off-campus laboratories and biotech companies. View our program details for in-depth information on this major.
The scientific training you receive will provide the confidence and skills to make an impact in your chosen field. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for advanced study and a career in medicine, dentistry, or other health sciences; teaching; or research-focused fields such as biochemistry and molecular biology, molecular genetics, developmental biology, and genomics.
