Degree Requirements

NOTE: The degree requirements listed below are applicable to all students entering during academic year 2016-2017. Students who entered during a previous academic year should view the degree requirements in their entering year catalog in the catalog archives. Students who wish to switch to the 2016-17 major and minor requirements should submit a new Declaration of Major or Declaration of Minor form to the M Center.


Queer Studies Minor
(a minimum of 19 semester course credits)

Required:

WGSS 072 Introduction to Queer Studies (4)

Five additional courses selected from the below list of electives in consultation with an advisor.
At least two of the courses must be WGSS courses.

EDUC 129 Schools, Sexuality, and Gender (3)

ENG 061R Studies in Lesbian Writing (4)

ENG 104 Introduction to Critical Theory (4)

ENG 105 The Queer Premodern (4)

ETHS 052 African American Women's History (3)

ETHS 156 Contemporary Queer Writers of Color (3-4)

WGSS 101 Feminist and Queer Research Methods (4)

WGSS 105 Sexuality and the City (3)

WGSS 135 Race, Sexuality, and the State (3)

WGSS 175 Transnational Sexualities (3)

WGSS 182 Feminist and Queer Theories (3)

WGSS 187 Fieldwork Study (4)

Special topics courses and courses with relevant service learning components can also be counted toward the minor with advisor approval.

At least four of the courses taken for the minor must be upper division.
