Board of Trustees

Meet the Mills College Board of Trustees

Members of the Board of Trustees of Mills College serve as fiduciaries of the College in overseeing institutional affairs in accordance with the articles of incorporation and bylaws of the College, periodic statements of mission, and institutional plans. The board works in strategic partnership with the president of the College, and each trustee brings individual expertise, experience, wisdom, and ideas about the wider world to all board deliberations.

Community participation in board deliberations is assured through the structure of working committees of the board. There are 12 standing committees of the board: Advancement, Audit, Campus Planning, Committee on Trustees, Educational Policies, Enrollment and Financial Aid, Executive, Executive Compensation, Finance, Investment, Presidential Assessment, and Student Life. The Executive Committee of the board includes the following trustees: Katie Sanborn (board chair), Karen May (board vice chair), Beth Hillman (College president), Eric Roberts (finance committee chair), Kathleen Burke, Alexandra Moses, and Marilyn Schuster.

This year (2016–17) the Board of Trustees of Mills College is composed of 33 voting members, including three trustees emeritus, three alumnae trustees, two recent graduate trustees, the College president, and the president of the Alumnae Association of Mills College (AAMC). There are also five honorary trustees (non-voting).

The Board of Trustees holds regular meetings in October, February, and May of each fiscal year. Standing committees meet off-cycle on an as-needed basis. Trustees generally serve three-year terms and may be nominated to serve a maximum of three consecutive terms for a total of nine years of service.
