As part of our commitment to making higher education accessible to as many talented students as possible, Mills does not require students to submit Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores as part of our admission process.* Mills is one of nearly 200 top-tier schools nationwide that have made standardized test scores optional.
If you feel that your SAT or ACT score reflects your academic ability, you can choose to have it sent to Mills. We do not give preference to admission applications that include test scores, however.
Our admission process remains holistic and selective. We want you to share your unique story, your accomplishments, and your goals for the future with us. And then we can help you find your place at Mills.
* With exceptions for students who were homeschooled or graduated from schools without traditional grades. See our first-year student application requirements and transfer student application requirements for detailed information.
Yes, you need to let us know. When you complete your admission application, you can indicate whether or not you will submit an SAT or ACT score on your status page. If you choose to submit a score, it will need to be sent directly from College Board or ACT well in advance of your application deadline:
Please note that your application will be considered complete once you have submitted all required materials and may be reviewed by our Admissions Committee even if your SAT/ACT test scores have not been received.
Once you submit your application, you can indicate whether or not you will submit your test scores on your status page. If you indicate that you will not be submitting your SAT or ACT scores, we will not consider them during the admission process even if they are included on your transcript.
If you tell us that you will submit a test score however, you must arrange for it to be sent directly to Mills from the College Board or ACT well in advance of your application deadline for it to be considered.
Please note that your application will be considered complete once you have submitted all required materials and may be reviewed by our Admissions Committee even if your SAT/ACT test scores have not been received.
Mills will superscore the SAT, which means that the Admissions Committee will consider only the highest evidence-based reading and writing and math scores that you have sent to us. Note that we will not superscore area scores from the old version of the SAT with the redesigned SAT (offered beginning March 2016) due to the differences between the two versions of the test.
Mills will not superscore the ACT. The Admissions Committee will consider the highest submitted composite score. They will not calculate a new composite score from subsections of multiple ACTs.
SAT and ACT scores receive equal consideration in the application review process. Students who wish to submit scores should submit the test score they feel best represents their academic abilities. Mills accepts both the old version of the SAT and the redesigned SAT for admission in 2017.
The majority of transfer students are not required to submit standardized test scores. If you are a transfer student who has completed fewer than 24 transferable credits AND who was homeschooled or graduated from schools without traditional grades, you are required to submit an SAT or ACT score. Contact your admission counselor with any questions.
