Pool Schedule and Fees

Beginning July 25 the ramp from the parking lot to the pool will be closed for repairs.

During the summer we are open for many many more lap swim hours than any time of the year! Please be aware other programs including swim lessons, water aerobics, Master's practices, staff trainings, and other swimming and water polo clinics may be happening through the summer across all lap swim times. All other free lanes will be available for lap swim.

Please join one of our other programs at the pool! Check out our group and private swim lesson information, as well as American Red Cross classes and other aquatics opportunities.

Thank you for your patronage of the Mills College Pool. The Trefethen Aquatics at Mills College is owned, operated and maintained physically and monetarily by Mills College.

Our mission is to provide safe, quality, educational, sustainable programs to Mills College students, staff, faculty, alumni, as well as the surrounding communities in Oakland. We want to provide these programs in a manner that is simple, logical and fun.

Our primary focus, as responsible staff members of the Mills College pool is to know and enforce the rules with standard delivery to create an environment that promotes safety and enjoyment of ALL pool users. Some of the pool users include Mills College swim team, Mills College classes, Mills College student events, award winning safety and swim lesson programs, youth swim meets and other events, as well as recreation and lap swimming. All of these programs factor into the published schedule. We are pleased to offer such an important service to the community and to so many types of users.

Mills College reserves the right to refuse service to any person or modify our schedule at any time. Our programming and scheduling align with the Mills College academic calendar. Every attempt will be made to inform pool users in advance when there will be changes, staffing issues, pool maintenance problems, weather and other safety issues which may necessitate closing the pool.. However, the pool may also be closed without notice. Mills College does not offer memberships to the pool.

For the safety and enjoyment of ALL pool users, EVERY pool user needs to know and follow the Pool Rules, Code of Conduct, and Lap Swim Etiquette. Please review all the Pool Rules, Code of Conduct, and Lap Swim Etiquette before visiting the Mills College pool.

Please note: The rules are posted, reviewed, revised, and enforced for your safety and enjoyment, as well as everyone who uses the pool. Every guest at the Mills College Pool is asked to sign in at the front gate upon entry in the facility. Your signature is your agreement that will follow all rules, Code of Conduct, Lap Swim Etiquette, and adhere to the rules immediately and completely as enforced by the Mills College pool staff including lifeguards and other employees at the pool.

Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The adult must be in the facility.

Mills College ID required for current Mills College students, staff and faculty to enter the pool for free. Without your ID, you will be asked to pay the non-refundable one day entry fee of $7.

Children under 14 years of age are welcome during recreational swim hours only.

Children under 13 years of age must be directly supervised by an adult.

Children under six years of age must be directly supervised by an adult in the water within arms length of the child at all times.

The shallow end is open for play only during recreational swim hours.

Three Semesters: Spring, Summer and Fall. Each Semester passes are prorated in four equal parts. You must purchase the Semester Pass after the date of the next part to receive the prorated price.

Please note: due to the extended hours in the summer, the summer semester pass is NOT pro-rated.

Annual passes are no longer available.

Friend of the College (FOTC) indicates the general public. FOTC are welcome during Lap Swim times. Children are welcome during Recreational Swim times. There is no charge for children under three years of age.

Discount punch cards are available
           FOTC:  Ten swims for $56
           Alum:   Ten swims for $40

Towel Rental: Daily towel–$2.00
Pool Lockers: No fee for Mills College students
All others: $35.00/semester, $35.00 for the summer
Outside Lockers: $1.00 lock rental per day

Immediate family members of students or alums must be accompanied by the student or alum, or they will be considered to be Friends of the College.


Those parking on campus must have a valid Mills College parking pass at all times. This pass can be purchased at the pool with a completed parking permit form for the 2015-16 season and $60 fee ($25/summer only). Visitor permit holders are currently authorized access to Richards and commuter lots, however this is subject to change and patrons found outside of these parking lots may be cited by officers at any time.

Please note, effective October 19, 2015, we will no longer require a picture ID to use the pool. Also, to allow for programs and scheduling to align with the Mills College academic calendar, Annual Passes are discontinued. All current Annual Passes will be honored through their expiration date, plus 2.5 weeks to cover our recent closure. Upon expiration of these passes, no new Annual Passes will be issued.
