We are excited to announce that we will be returning to campus this fall for the new academic year, and the majority of our classes will resume in person. New health guidelines will be in place beginning on August 1, 2021. Thanks to the efforts of everyone in the Mills community, we have experienced very few cases of COVID-19 on our campus, and we look forward to following less restrictive guidelines while continuing to maintain our great health safety record. Faculty and staff must be vaccinated by August 9, while students are required to be vaccinated by August 16, 2021. You can request an immunization exemption if you cannot comply. Learn how to provide proof of vaccination or follow the exemption process. On behalf of everyone at Mills, we look forward to seeing you back on campus!
What You Can Expect
The Majority of Classes Will Be In Person.
Housing Will Be Open.
Vaccinations Will Be Required for Students, Faculty, and Staff.
Everyone Will Be Required to Wear a Mask Indoors.
The Mills Campus Will Be Open to the Public.
Because COVID-19 vaccines and testing are widely available, we are planning to reopen the Mills campus for the upcoming academic year. On-campus experiences will include regular in-person instruction as well as a variety of hybrid options, including a mixture of online and in-person class sessions, frequent access to specialized spaces such as labs and art studios, planned field trips, and periodic meetings throughout the semester. Details about the teaching modality for each course are included in the class search tool in the “Class Notes” section.
As always, the safety of our community remains a top priority, and we will continue to follow important State and County health guidelines, and adjust our plans if needed.
What You Need to Know
As vaccinations in the State of California have become prevalent, Mills has lessened the restrictions our health and safety guidelines for everyone on campus. These measures ensure that we are adhering to public health mandates to mitigate the spread of the virus. Please visit our health and safety guidelines page for details.
Anyone over the age of two must wear a face covering or mask indoors even if vaccinated until further notice. The mask should cover your nose and mouth and be worn any time you are within six feet of someone else outdoors if you are unvaccinated. Off campus, everyone must wear a mask as mandated by public guidelines.
Keep a minimum of six feet (about two arms' length) between yourself and others following social distancing guidelines. This physical distance helps stop the spread of the virus and minimizes the risk to everyone at Mills. Since the vaccination status of an individual is confidential, Mills will continue to use some social distancing, barriers, and event spacing to reduce risk for the unvaccinated.
We recommend that you continue to wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to mitigate the risks of infectious diseases. Use hand sanitizer made with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not immediately available.
The risk of surface transmission has been determined to be low, but it's always a good idea to protect your environment and your health by cleaning your space.
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms before coming on to campus/leaving a residence hall, we ask that you stay home and contact your healthcare provider as necesary. You will no longer be required to show a health check pass at the front gate.
If you are sick or have any symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home or in your residence hall and seek medical assistance/diagnosis. You may need to quarantine for a minimum 10 days to ensure that you do not infect others.
We encourage you to get tested if you are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.
Mills COVID-19 Dashboard
To keep the Mills community informed, we have created a dashboard that will be updated every Monday with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on campus, classified by students, faculty, and staff. We encourage any student, faculty, or staff member who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or who has been in contact with someone who has tested positive to get tested.
COVID-19 News Updates
Due to the increases in cases and the infectious nature of the Delta variant of COVID-19 and new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Mills will require all individuals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, to wear a mask indoors until further notice. Unvaccinated individuals, including guests, must wear a mask when within 6 feet of someone outdoors. Vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals may remove masks while in dining locations while actively eating and drinking.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) established a Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to assist higher education institutions and enrolled students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Current Mills students were eligible to apply for emergency grants to help with their immediate and long-term needs. For detailed information, visit the CARES Act reporting page.
