John Ruys is an experimental psychologist. His research focuses on emotion and social cognition (what we think and feel about others) in human and nonhuman animals. Dr. Ruys’ early work focused on individual differences in social behavior and substance use. More recently, Dr. Ruys and his students have focused on studying the cues people use to determine sexual orientation, affect, attractiveness, compatibility, and friendship especially in queer communities (LGBTQ+).
