Mills College Students to Document Recession’s Effects for KALW Public Radio
Oakland, CA–March 01, 2012 Mills College students are venturing into the world of journalism as they try their hand at investigative reporting.
Eight students in the intermediate public radio reporting class will canvass the Fruitvale and San Antonio neighborhoods of Oakland to create a series of documentary stories about these low-income areas. They will be interviewing residents in an effort to reveal how the economic downtown has affected them, their businesses, and their lives.
Each spring, the public radio reporting class at Mills produces a documentary project. Part of this year’s class includes creating an online media presence. The project’s blog provides a snapshot of the area and of the people who live and work there.
Hear their revealing stories as these student become real-life reporters when the projects air on KALW-FM, an NPR affiliate, in May.
