Mills College President Honored as a Trailblazer by Leadership California

Oakland, CA–March 05, 2012 Mills College President Alecia A. DeCoudreaux will receive the Trailblazer Award from Leadership California in recognition of her dedication to women’s education and her 30-year career of exemplary leadership.

The "Legacy of Leadership" awards ceremony on April 30 will celebrate the contributions of California women who are pioneers in their fields. DeCoudreaux, who has been a leader for more than 30 years as a senior corporate executive, an attorney, women’s advocate, fundraiser, and community volunteer, will be among four women from government, community organizations, academic institutions, and businesses who will be honored.

“President DeCoudreaux is poised to advance Mills’ position as a strong independent liberal arts college for women with graduate programs for women and men,” noted Leadership California, a 20-year-old organization dedicated to advancing leadership roles for women in the state.

DeCoudreaux said, “It is an honor to receive the Trailblazer Award from Leadership California. Throughout my corporate career, I have had tremendous respect for education. I believe my passion for and commitment to women’s education, as well as my direct experience in the management of a women’s college, will help me build on the successful legacy of Mills as a nationally recognized model for women’s higher education.”

DeCoudreaux became the 13th president of Mills in July, bringing her multifaceted background to the top position at the oldest women’s college in the West.
