Mills Named One of the Best 377 Colleges in the Nation by The Princeton Review

Oakland, CA–August 22, 2012 Mills College has been selected as one of the top colleges in the country according to the 2013 edition of the Princeton Review’s Best 377 Colleges. Mills was also recognized as one of the best colleges in the West, becoming one of the top 121 regional colleges The Princeton Review recommends to students pursuing an undergraduate degree.

Mills is also distinguished as one of the greenest colleges in the nation based on the school’s performance as an environmentally aware and responsible institution, scoring a 97 out of a possible 99 for environmental policies and practices.

The Best 377 Colleges characterizes Mills as a small women’s institution with a rigorous academic program defined as "the epitome of a liberal arts education.”

"We are proud to be recognized for our outstanding academics, which is the primary criteria for being selected as one of the best colleges in the nation,” said Mills College Provost Sandra Greer. “It is affirmation of the academic quality and unique educational experience we offer at Mills that has been shaping women’s lives for more than 160 years."

In the Princeton Review’s description of campus life, students agree that, "Mills is a special place. It is academic, empowering, creative and always intellectually stimulating.” Students further affirm that, “Mills exceeds expectations in creating an intimate and welcoming environment as well as in promoting student activism.”

Additionally, the annual college guide describes the student body as “academically inclined and individualistic,” also noting that Mills is “a very open-minded environment” that distinguishes itself from other colleges based on how students “embrace diversity and gender equality in hopes of creating a better world.”

The Best 377 Colleges has been based almost entirely on surveys of students attending the schools, including more than 122,000 students who were queried nationally. Students were asked 80 questions about their school's academics, administration, campus life, and student body.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Mills has been included in the Princeton Review's annual national college guidebook, a recognition given to only the top 15 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.
