Mills President Alecia DeCoudreaux Featured
in Diversity & the Bar Magazine Cover Story
Oakland, CA–May 31, 2013 During her distinguished legal career, Alecia DeCoudreaux knew that any second career of hers “would only be in the nonprofit world, preferably in higher education.” In Diversity & the Bar magazine’s May/June 2013 cover story, the Mills College President’s transition to leadership of an institution of higher learning was featured prominently.
The magazine’s center spread addressed how colleges and universities are hiring career lawyers as their presidents to steer the institutions through challenging times. The story spotlighted DeCoudreaux’s career path as an example of how college boards have found that many of the daily issues on college campuses are parallel to those faced by general counsels in corporations.
In the article, DeCoudreaux expressed her passion for the mission of Mills College and her belief that a single-sex education “eliminates the competition for academic support and opportunity” often seen in coed environments.
“I’m lucky this college found me,” she said. “If you believe in the organization it helps make the 24/7 job fun.”
