KQED’s Forum Features Mills Professor Fred Lawson Speaking on Aleppo, Syria
Oakland, CA–December 20, 2016 Mills Professor of Government Fred Lawson joined a panel of experts on KQED radio Monday where he spoke about the evacuations of civilians and rebel fighters from the war-ravaged neighborhoods of eastern Aleppo in Syria.
Lawson said during the broadcast that in the broader Syrian conflict, the return of chemical weapons usage remains very real.
“Whether or not the genie of chemical weapons can be put back in the bottle is very much up in the air right now,” Lawson said. “There are too many sides that have access now.”
Lawson is the head of the Government department at Mills where he has taught since 1985. He is a scholar of international relations in the Middle East with specific expertise in Syrian, Egyptian, and Gulf affairs. His most recent book is Global Security Watch: Syria.
