Kensington Palace just announced that Mills alum Claire Ptak ’97 has been selected to make Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake. Chef Ptak will create a lemon elderflower cake covered in buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers for the royal wedding on May 19.
The Californian pastry chef, who is also a food writer and food stylist originally studied film theory and video art at Mills College.
In 2010, she opened Violet Bakery in London, a small bakery creating American-style cupcakes, brownies and pastries, using seasonal and organic ingredients. A recent Elle article explains how she made the leap from film theory to earning the honor of creating the royal wedding cake.
