Oakland, CA—February 16, 2018
Mills College announced today that it awarded over $150,000 in Mills-Oakland Promise scholarships to 23 OUSD students at its Preview Admission Day as part of its commitment to making a transformative education more affordable and accessible to young women and girls.
Oakland Promise is a collaboration between Libby Schaaf, mayor of Oakland, Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Office of Equity, the City of Oakland, the East Bay College Fund, and local university leaders. Its goal is to ensure that every Oakland child graduates high school with the expectations, resources, and support to complete college and be successful in the career of their choice.
As part of its commitment to the Oakland Promise Program, Mills awarded 23 financial aid scholarships ranging between $2,000 and $10,000 at the event. In addition to these awards, Mills will be announcing the recipients of 10 more Mills-Oakland Promise Scholarships in the months to come.
