UC Davis Global Affairs announced that the keynote speaker for its 2018 International Research Conference in September will be Mills College President Elizabeth L. Hillman who will be addressing the topic of sexual harassment of women in academia.
Hillman, one of the committee members who co-authored Sexual Harassment of Women: Climate, Culture and Consequences in Academic Sciences, Engineering and Medicinea recently released, consensus report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, will discuss the report's implications pertaining to the conference theme, 'Innovation Within Changing Political and Research Environments.
A scholar of history and law who speaks and publishes frequently on issues of sexual violence and gender equity, Hillman recently told KQED Science,"I think that the report does a great job of translating the science of sexual harassment to concrete action. The report is rooted in evidence, which makes it different from other studies."
The conference, the first of its kind on the West Coast, is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 17-18. Hillman's talk is scheduled for the first day, Sept. 17, during the conference luncheon, 12:15-1:45 p.m., at the Conference Center.
