Oakland, CA—January 10, 2020
Mills College is pleased to announce a new partnership with Starr King School for the Ministry. Mills and Starr King have signed a Letter of Intent that marks the beginning of a formal process to relocate Starr King to the Mills campus beginning in fall 2020. Starr King is a Unitarian Universalist and multi-religious seminary based in Berkeley, CA. Part of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), Starr King’s approximately 100 students and 25 staff and faculty will vacate its current property on Le Conte Ave at the end of the academic year.
“We are so pleased to welcome Starr King to Mills,” says Mills College President Elizabeth L. Hillman. “Starr King will add vibrancy and opportunity for current and future students, and is part of our larger vision for a new economic model that will not only bring mission-aligned K through 20 educational partners to Mills, but also new housing, workforce, and community development to the campus, our students, and our city of Oakland neighbors.”
“I’m also thrilled,” says The Reverend Rosemary Bray McNatt, President of Starr King. “Our decision to co-locate with Mills brings with it a host of opportunities that will help us grow stronger and more fully live into our mission.”
While Starr King will co-locate at Mills, both colleges will retain separate identities.
