Mills offers a variety of safety and transportation programs to assist students and members of the campus community in exploring Oakland and the Bay Area. We have a fully staffed department of trained professionals charged with keeping the campus and those who live, learn, work, and visit here as safe as possible.
Our Department of Public Safety (DPS) has distinguished itself by fostering one of the safest campuses in the Bay Area. Dedicated officers monitor campus traffic, patrol the grounds, respond to emergencies, and secure campus buildings. DPS has implemented a series of safety measures and put policies in place that cover virtually every possible occurrence from natural disasters to crime.

To explore the world outside of the campus gates, students use the Mills shuttle. We provide shuttle service to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), and city buses stop right outside the Mills front gate. You'll get your AC Transit EasyPass during Orientation so you can take the bus to explore the East Bay, San Francisco, and the Peninsula as you help lower your environmental impact.
The Mills shuttle runs seven days a week during the academic year and connects students with some of the exciting cultural and social events in the Bay Area, including regular stops at the UC Berkeley campus.
