Dr. Kathryn Baugher is an Enrollment Management Consultant at Mills College in Oakland, California. She oversees undergraduate and graduate admissions offices and coordinates with the Vice President of Finance and Administration/Treasurer to manage student financial services which includes academic records, financial aid, and student accounts. She works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop a comprehensive approach to integrating all of the College’s programs, practices, policies, and planning related to achieving the optimal recruitment, retention, and graduation of students as defined by the mission, academic vision, and strategic plan of Mills.
During her first year of work with Mills, Dr. Baugher helped to stabilize and reverse recent enrollment declines with the staff in the enrollment division. Ongoing initiatives on which she leads or serves include development of Mills’ role in the Oakland Promise initiative, moving Mills to a Test Score Optional strategy for incoming first year students, development of an intensive international recruitment plan, restructure of the M Center for improved student service and success, and numerous other policy and process updates for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
Dr. Baugher began her 30 plus year career in higher education as an admissions counselor at Samford University. She served Belmont University for 18 years leading through a period of unprecedented growth for the university. While at Belmont she led in the creation of Student Financial Services and Belmont Central, award winning student service integrations that were first of their kind. She also served as chief enrollment officer at Trevecca Nazarene University for three years, reversing an enrollment decline and establishing processes and policies that led to record enrollments. She now serves as a long term consultant or interim for colleges and universities across the country. She has served a wide range of institutions focusing on enrollment growth opportunities.
She has authored numerous articles and book chapters about her experiences with the LEARN process and CQI in Education, integration of student services and the development of strategic enrollment management. She speaks frequently and internationally about the applications of Quality Improvement to Education and other aspects of educational administration, particularly in the areas of enrollment.
Dr. Baugher earned her BA in Education at Samford University, her MA in Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and EdD in Education Leadership from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Baugher lives in Nashville, TN with her husband Lance. She enjoys cooking, scuba diving, and playing with her grandchildren.
