In 2017, Mills was designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the US Department of Education. This designation is given to accredited, degree-granting public or private institutions of higher education whose total undergraduate full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment is comprised of 25% or more Latinx students.
This federal initiative was designed to support the educational access and advancement of Hispanic Americans as the largest minority group in the country. Upon achieving HSI status, Mills created a Latinx Task Force to begin the development of curricular and co-curricular opportunities for students as part of our overall commitment to gender and racial justice. This work will now be part of our transition process as we move toward becoming Mills College at Northeastern University.
